The directive was contained in a service-wide circular issued and dated 7th November, 2022 with Ref No. SGF/OP/l/S.3/Xll/186.

In a statement signed by its Legal, Enforcement and Regulations Lead, Babatunde Bamigboye, the agency said that the Bureau noted with concern that certain sensitive personal data purportedly belonging to the two Nigerian citizens (complainant and patient) “in this case are being processed by data controllers particularly media organizations without regard to the implications under the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) 2019”.
A statement by Dr Femi Adeluyi, Technical Assistatnt (Information Technology) to the Minister, said the minister has directed the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), as the Regulator of the Information Technology sector, to engage vigorously with Facebook to understand the processes, level of security, etc of the data of Nigerian users in order to ensure that policies proposed for Nigeria strictly adhere to the provisions of NDPR.
The House made this known in Ogbele community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state on Saturday during an oversight function by its ad hoc committee set up to look into a petition against an oil exploration company, Niger Delta Petroleum Resources, operating OML 54 in the area.
