He described human trafficking as a fundamental problem whose victims are mostly vulnerable women and children, hence the need to support the efforts of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in tackling the menace.
He disclosed that the agency has commenced acquisition of modern equipment and upgrading of the existing operational strategies coupled with enhanced capacity building for its operatives for the purpose of fishing out trafficking barons and their accomplices no matter their hideout within and outside the country.
The launch coincides with this year’s commemoration of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons (WDATIP) with the theme ‘Victims’ Voices take the Lead’.
This year’s edition is themed ‘Let the Voices of Victims Lead the Way’.
The crack team drawn from the NAPTIP headquarters, Abuja, and the Makurdi zonal command is led by the Director of Investigation, Daniel Atokolo.
Sanwo-Olu said the state would be reaching out to the agency for support in human capital requirements and operation space to boost the agency’s response to the crime.
Nezan gave the names of the suspects as Wilson Erurom, a federal civil servant, Marksoo Uzer, a middle age man who is also an employee of First Fertility Hospital, Makurdi, Benue, Albert Motemi and Gabriel Gav respectively.
