A statement by Dr Femi Adeluyi, Technical Assistatnt (Information Technology) to the Minister, said the minister has directed the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), as the Regulator of the Information Technology sector, to engage vigorously with Facebook to understand the processes, level of security, etc of the data of Nigerian users in order to ensure that policies proposed for Nigeria strictly adhere to the provisions of NDPR.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, signed by the Technical Assistant on Information Technology to the Minister, Dr Femi Adeluyi, the directive was given by President Muhammadu Buhari, after the final amendment of a revised National Digital Identity Policy for SIM Card Registration on Thursday.

This was disclosed in a statement signed on Thursday by the Technical Assistant (Information Technology) to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Femi Adeluyi.

The NIN is mandatory for all Nigerians and eligibility is a dash to the enrolment centre where all your bio data is captured through a series of clicks on the computer mouse. Once your data is collected, you are given a transaction slip and depending on where in the universe is done, you are either given a NIN slip indicating enrolment, or you submit your phone number and email address for further communication.

A statement jointly signed by the spokesmen of the Nigerian Communications Commission (and the National Identity Management Commission, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde and Mr Kayode Adegoke respectively, said the decision to extend the date was reached at a meeting of stakeholders with the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy,  Dr. Isa Pantami.

The National Task Force on the NIN and Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) registration made the announcement on Tuesday, in Abuja, in a statement jointly signed by Prof. Umar Danbatta, Executive Vice-Chairman, Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) and Engr Aliyu Aziz, Director-General, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, said this following complains from some applicants who alleged that they were being asked to pay for the service.
