The News Agency of Nigeria reports that parties at the global climate conference known as COP28 in Dubai on Monday released the draft deal, a document that would form the final agreement of the summit.

On the eve of the summit, there emerged a heart-warming piece of news: Nigerian Tariye Gbadegesin was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the Climate Investment Fund. The fund based in Washington DC is one of the world’s biggest innovative financing platforms. Tariye replaces Portuguese Mafalda Duarte who is now at the head of the Green Climate Fund based in South Korea. Though the Harvard Business School graduate is also partly a US citizen, Tariye’s appointment speaks to the widely acknowledged innumerable talents that abound among the Nigerian-Americans.
Dr Salisu Dahiru, Director-General, National Council on Climate Change, disclosed this on Wednesday.
The cancellation, he said, followed the outrage that trailed Nigeria’s 1,411 delegates to the COP28.
Its Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, made this known during a side event at the COP28 in Dubai, UAE.
Participants included top Chinese climate envoy, senior UN officials and energy officials of Egypt and Malawi.
The energy gathering came as the climate talks at COP28, or the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), reached a stalemate over issues including energy transition.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this known in a statement on Monday.
Two waste conversion initiatives, which the State pitched at the global climate summit, have attracted significant interest from investors.
