Speaking at the launch of the programme, which has beneficiaries from the 193 wards in Kwara, the celebrant, and launcher of the insurance scheme, Dr. Saraki, called for public and private sector participation to achieve 100 per cent universal healthcare coverage across the nation.

While making this call at an event to mark this year’s annual Open Government Partnership (OGP) over the weekend in Minna, the team Leader, State Technical committee on Healthcare financing, Dr Stephen Adeoye said “to harness the gains of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, the state government must develop a sustainability plan for its source of funding”.
The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, made the assertion at the Ministerial Health Sector Media Engagement on the Path to Universal Health Coverage on Monday in Abuja.
The Basic Health Care Provision Fun is the minimum of one per cent of the consolidated Federal Government revenue and contributions from donor grants set aside to fund the basic health need of the citizens.
He stated: “While the Executive did not include the BHCPF in the 2018 Appropriation Bill submitted to the National Assembly, the Senate embarked upon a phenomenal task of ensuring the inclusion of BHCPF in the 2018 appropriation and its effective implementation.
