The President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, gave the commendation while addressing newsmen at the end of a meeting between the leadership of the union and the Federal Government on Friday in Abuja.
The chapter Chairman, Dr Samuel Shikaa, said this while addressing journalists shortly after the meeting.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities got the Federal Government to approve and release the allowance after about 10 months of strike and negotiation between the lecturers and government officials.
Diri, who inaugurated the committee on Friday in Government House, Yenagoa, after meeting separately with both bodies, expressed his administration’s preparedness to ensure a peaceful resolution of the welfare issues affecting staff of the state-owned higher institutions.
Dr. Bentse Pamson, Chairman of the chapter, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Jos on Wednesday that ongoing and completed projects in the institution were funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.
The meeting was to amicably resolve the face-off between both parties, which has disrupted academic activities in the Ebonyi State University
Dr. Pamson Bentse, Chairman of the union in the University, who disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Jos, said the decision to proceed on strike was reached after its congress meeting, held on Monday at the University’s main campus in Bokkos.
Dr. Dipo Akomolafe, Chairman, ASUU, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology Chapter, Okitipupa, Ondo State, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Okitipupa.
