Suspected fake soldiers cause pandemonium in Ogun market, arrested

Two suspected fake soldiers were on September 22, 2020 arrested in Sagamu area of Ogun State.

The spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.

Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer of Sakura Division that four persons cladded in Nigerian Army camouflage uniform suddenly alighted from a bus at Sabo Market, Sagamu, and caused pandemonium there, beating up an elderly market woman and disrupting commercial activities.

While this was going on, a serving soldier arrived the scene and demanded for the identity of the suspects.

Instead of identifying themselves, they started boarding commercial motorcycles to escape from the scene, hence the distress call to the police.

On the strength of the information, the DPO, Sakura Division, CSP Dahunsi Ronald, quickly led his patrol team to the scene, where two of the suspects were arrested with the help of members of the public.

The angry mob descended on them and attempted to hijack the suspects, but they were quickly whisked away from the scene by the police.

The arrested suspects are: Joseph Uzor, 27, and Obadeyi Quadr, 27.

Recovered from them were: two pairs of Army camouflage uniform, two pairs of black boots, one camouflage vest, one camouflage fez cap, one Samsung phone and sum of N10,800.

Oyeyemi said Uzor and Quadr are strongly suspected to be part of the robbery syndicate who used to operate in military outfit along Shagamu-Benin Expressway, some of who were recently apprehended.

The Command’s Commissioner, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

Ajogun equally directed an indepth investigation into their past activities before arraigning them before a court of competent jurisdiction.
