Nigeria’s Victor Moses was a second half substitute as Luis Suarez scored a hat-trick in Liverpool’s 4-1 win over West Brom on Saturday.
The Uruguayan scored twice in six first-half minutes and rounded off the hat-trick, his first at Anfield, in the second half, before James Morrison pulled a goal back from the penalty spot and Daniel Sturridge rounded off the scoring in style.
Suarez added his second six minutes later with a sublime 18-yard header into the top corner from Aly Cissokho’s cross.
Former Liverpool forward, Nicolas Anelka, almost put West Brom back in the game on the stroke of half time when his shot was cleared off the line by Skrtel.
Steve Clarke, facing his old club, may have hoped the chance would start a revival for the second half before Suarez completed his hat-trick with a glancing header from Gerrard’s free-kick.
After Sturridge hit the crossbar, West Brom were given a lifeline when Billy Jones won an innocuous penalty and Morrison buried the spot-kick in emphatic fashion.
But after a short spell of pressure for the visitors, Sturridge spotted Boaz Myhill off his line and beat the goalkeeper with an astonishing long-range chip.
The win lifts Liverpool into second place in the Premier League, two points behind leaders Arsenal, while West Brom drop to 13th.
