Indigenes of Kogi West Senatorial district on Wednesday told Governor Idris Wada to stop enslaving them or else they would resolve to massive disobedience if the ongoing marginalisation is not addressed within 30 days.
Briefing newsmen, Senator Dino Melaye in company of other leaders from the Senatorial district lamented the clear case of injustice and inequality in the state to the people of “Okun” for the past 16 years by Igala led administration in the state.
Citting what is going on in the state University as an instance, Dino revealed that the principal officers in the state institution are shared between “Igbira” and Igala people in the state.
He explained further that out of the 37 positions in the state institution, Kogi East claimed 37 positions, Kogi Central claimed 5 positions and 2 positions are given to non-indigene of state.
The group however demanded that the choice of rotating Vice-chancellor among three senatorial zones should be discussed saying that Vice chancellor is not the birth right of “Igalas”.
The Indigenes of Kogi West also requested that the employment profile of all state institutions and parastatals should be looked into so that each senatorial district be represented in each unit of such institutions and equity in those institutions and parastatals.
Dino said,” I want to bring to the notice of the general public that other than the Igala people, no other part of the state has ever been Director General Government House or permanent secretary Government house, Accountant General of the State, Chief of staff to the governor e.t.c.
“Employment in Kogi state University as of 2013, while the east had 94 percent of junior staff, 76.60 percent of senior staff, West had only 1.5 percent of junior staff and 16.60 percent of senior staff.
“Most unfortunately non-indigenes have 1.4 percent of Junior and 25.9 percent of Senior. In total while the east senatorial district had a total of 73.7 percent, non-indigenes 15.2 percent, west has only 7.6 percent.”
