State governors under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors Forum have resolved to work with the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development to ensure that the sector contributes to job creation and the country’s industrialisation.
The Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, disclosed this to State House correspondents in the early hours of Thursday at the end of the NGF’s first meeting of the year.
Yari, who is the Zamfara State Governor, read the meeting’s communique to reporters at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He also said the Forum listened to a presentation by the Chairman of the States Peer Review Mechanism Steering Committee, Justice Muhammed Uwais, and thereafter launched the revised SPRM Base document to reinvigorate the SPRM programme and improve good governance and service delivery in states.
The governor said the Forum also formally congratulated the newly-sworn in Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and welcomed him into the fold.
The communique read, “Following the presentation made by the chairman of the States Peer Review Mechanism Steering Committee, Justice Muhammed Uwais, on revised tools and procedures to simplify SPRM operations, the forum commended the steering committee for its contribution to the implementation of the programme and pledged to strengthen the mechanism.
“The forum further launched the Revised SPRM Base document to reinvigorate the SPRM programme and improve good governance and service delivery in states.
“After a comprehensive presentation made by the Minister of State, Solid Minerals Development, Abubakar Bwari, members resolved to partner with the ministry and other key stakeholders to create an enabling environment for the sector to act as catalyst for job creation, revenue generation, industrialisation, environmental sustainability and inclusion.
“Members formally congratulated the newly-sworn in Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and welcomed him to the forum.”
