The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics on Tuesday said it was set to take some “far reaching decisions” following some of its demands that the Federal Government had failed to meet.
Adebanjo Ogunsipe, the National Publicity Secretary of SSANIP, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the association had convened a National Executive Council meeting to review the matter.
Ogunsipe said that the meeting would hold on June 25 to 27 at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi State.
Ogunsipe said that though some of its demands had been resolved, many others had not been met by the government since the association suspended its strike in July 2013
The association had on July 19, 2013 suspended a three-month strike to allow government look into its outstanding demands.
According to the association, some of the resolved demands included the establishment of a NEEDS Assessment Committee, implementation of CONTISS 15 migration and the introduction of a new scheme of service.
It said outstanding demands included the removal of dichotomy and discrimination against Higher National Diploma holders and the release of government White Paper on Visitation Panel to Federal Polytechnics.
The union also wants full implementation on CONTISS 15 and payment of arrears accruable in one instalment.
Others are establishment of a National Polytechnic Commission and a five-year single tenure for rectors and other principal officers.
It also wants exemption of tertiary institutions from the Integrated Personal and Payroll Information System due to their peculiarities.
The Federal Government released N40 billion for payment of CONTISS 15 arrears in two instalments in March and September this year.
The union, however, rejected the payment modalities, insisting that it should be paid at once.
The Federal Government had, also in April, set up a committee to resolve the dichotomy between holders of the HND and Degree holders.
