No fewer than 50 members of an insurgent group in Nasarawa State were reportedly killed on Wednesday after an exchange of gunfire between them and soldiers in the state.
The shootout, it was gathered, happened when the soldiers raided one of the camps of the AK 47 wielding insurgents at Ipkosogye in Obi Local Government Area of the state.
At the end of the raid, over 50 persons were killed.
Several arms and ammunition were also said to have been recovered from them.
The insurgents, it was gathered, were the first to open fire on the soldiers upon sighting them in their camp.
The development, findings showed, made the soldiers to engage the insurgents in total gun battle.
It was further gathered that several arms, live ammunitions, cutlasses, clubs and other dangerous items were recovered from the insurgents at the camp.
It would be recalled that the AK 47 wielding insurgents had earlier sacked several communities in the state, killed over 100 people and burnt over 300 houses since they began their deadly operations four months ago, without a challenge from security agents in the state.
The Army had killed nine Fulani insurgents in February at suburb in Keana, Keana Local Government Area in the state in the recent clash between farmers/herdsmen in the southern senatorial district of the state.
The development has led to security being beefed up in Lafia, the state capital, with increased military patrol vehicles, including armoured personnel carriers, seen patrolling the streets of Lafia and its environs.
