An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded a 73-year-old man, Dada Orimoloye in prison for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.
Orimoloye, of no fixed address, is facing a one-count charge of rape.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the accused committed the offence on October 17, in Iyin-Ekiti.
Akinwale said that the accused lured the 14-year-old girl into his room and defiled her.
He said the victim had been admitted in the hospital for treatment.
According to Akinwale, the offence contravenes Section 31 (2) of the Child’s Rights Law of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the accused in prison pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The plea of the accused was not taken.
The Magistrate, Modupe Afeniforo, then ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case until November 2, for mention.
