Senators are standing in solidarity with their colleague, Senator Dino Melaye, who has literally been placed under house arrest in his Abuja home.
As earlier reported by The Eagle Online, the police stormed Melaye’s home in Abuja after he was stopped from travelling out of the country to Morocco on Monday morning.
Two patrol vans have been used to block the two entrances into the street.
No fewer than 21 fully armed policemen have been stationed at the entrances with two patrol vehicles.
The leader of the police team, who was in mufti, refused to speak with newsmen.
He said the only person who could speak on the operation is the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood.
As at press time, senators have started arriving at Melaye’s residence.
Among the early callers were Senators Attah Idoko, Abiodun Olujimi, Philip Adudua and Rafiu Ibrahim.
The Eagle Online learnt that the senators are there to persuade the police to end the siege and allow Melaye report to the Kogi State Police Command on his own.
The senator had been invited for questioning by the police over allegations of gun running.
He has, however, shunned the invitation.
