The Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency on Thursday donated relief materials to fire disaster victims in the state.
Presenting the items to the victims in Gusau, the Executive Secretary of the agency, Malam Sanusi Kwatarkwashi, said the assistance was aimed at reducing the sufferings of the victims.
Kwatarkwashi added that the two houses belonging to the victims were raised by fire on Monday.
The victims were: Bala Ibrahim of Barakallahu Area, Zainab Ibrahim and Balkisu Dauda of Samaru Area, both from the state capital.
He said the relief items comprised clothing materials, beddings, food items, women and children’s wears.
He said: “This assistance was provided by the agency.
“We have already assessed the damages caused by the disaster in the affected houses; we are going to present our report to the state government for its assistance to the victims.
“You know, our responsibility is not limited to giving relief to disaster victims only, we are more concerned on proactive measures.
“We create awareness to members of the public to always prevent the occurrence of disasters.
“We usually organise sensitisation campaigns on proactive measures in tackling the disasters annually where we educate members of the public in this regard.
“We have seasonal disasters, such as flooding in the rainy season and fire in the dry season.
“We are approaching dry season, we experience fire disasters around this time.
“We are appealing to members of the public particularly women at home to always be conscious during and after cooking.”
Malam Bala Ibrahim who spoke on behalf of the victims thanked the agency for gesture and appealed to well-meaning individuals for more assistance.
