Security guard charged with rape of two girls at gunpoint

A 33-year-old security guard, who allegedly raped two girls at gunpoint, was on Monday brought before an Ojokoro Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused, Alex Theophilus, a resident at 21, Four Square Street, Abule-Egba, Lagos, is standing trial on a three-count charge of assault, theft and rape.
Theophilus, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lugard Ahonle, told the court that the accused committed the offences on February 2 at Saale area of Iju-Ishaga, Lagos at 11.30pm.
Ahonle said: “Theophilus was on duty when the two salesgirls – Shakirat Adeniyi and Adetola Obileye – were returning from work before he swooped on them.
“The accused, who was armed with a gun threatening to kill the salesgirls, forcefully had a carnal knowledge of them.”
According to the prosecutor, Theophilus also stole a Blackberry phone valued at N35,000 and N22,000 from the girls.
He said the offences contravened Sections 56, 134 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Magistrate, Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Akanni adjourned the case to March 24 for mention.
