A former Coach of the Super Falcons, Godwin Izilien, says the provisional 30-man list released by Coach Gernot Rohr ahead of the 2018 World Cup, will surpass the expectations of Nigerians.
Izilien made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Benin.
He added that the current crop of players were not only active in their respective clubs, but showed total commitment during the qualifying series for the World Cup.
The veteran coach told NAN that Rohr should be commended for the quality of players that he selected for the preparations for the World Cup in Russia.
According to him, the need for commendation stemmed from the fact that some Nigerians had anticipated that he would succumb to pressure from interest groups, but the list has proved them wrong.
He said: “We need to commend the effort of the coach that he was able to come out with this list in spite of pressure from agents of some unfit players.
“All that is needed now is to pray that the list of players released gives us the desired result at the World Cup.
“We pray also for the players to remain injury-free, they must also remain focused and listen to their coach.
“Bearing this in mind, I make bold to tell you that the players will surprise the world and themselves at the Mundial.’’
On the team’s preparation, Izilien said it had been exceptional and methodical.
He said: “I like the methodical approach; the coach is really doing a great job.’’
NAN reports that the Super Eagles will open its account at the World Cup on June 14 against Croatia in the city of Kaliningrad.
