Mutiu Adepoju, a former midfielder of Racing Santander FC of Spain, says the proposed partnership between Real Madrid Football Foundation and SPR Luxury Limited will boost youth development in the country.
Adepoju, who initially plied his trade with the B Team of Real Madrid FC from 1989 to 1992, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Lagos that the club influenced his career positively.
NAN reports that the Real Madrid Foundation Clinic Nigeria launch will take place on December 18 in Abuja.
He said: “Real Madrid is the club where I learnt a lot; that was the first club I got to, I learnt a lot, and it rubbed off on me positively throughout my career.
“So I believe their coming is going to be of immense opportunity for the youths’ and for Nigerian football.”
NAN reports that Adepoju made 67 appearances for Real Madrid B team with 27 goals, before moving onto Racing Santander FC from 1992 to 1996 and scoring 25 goals in 124 matches.
Meanwhile, Yomi Umar, the Project Director of SPR Luxury Limited, told NAN that the essence of the partnership with Real Madrid was to develop football at the grassroots.
Umar said: “Nigerians are very passionate about football and we realise that with the number of talents we have in this country, we should aim at getting it right at the grassroots.”
