As Muslims all over the world begin the Ramadan, former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has called on Muslims in the country to maximise the spiritual and physical benefits inherent in the holy month by seeking the face of God for lasting solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
Babangida made this call in his Ramadan message signed and made available to newsmen on Thursday.
He said prayers will help Nigeria to find solutions to its numerous challenges.
He said: “I enjoin Muslims to conduct themselves very well during the holy month in order to maximize the spiritual and physical benefits inherent in the fasting period for us to surmount our challenges at all levels and premises of life.
“I am convinced that with perseverance, good intention, prayers, fairness and firmness.
“We are no doubt faced with various challenges at personal and National levels, but we are always strong and we believe in divine interventions to always take us through the right path with prayers to find solutions to our challenges.”
Also, an All Progressives Congress stalwart in Niger State, Hon. Jonathan Vatsa, has called on Muslims in the country to use the Ramadan season to pray for peace and security stability.
Vatsa in a Ramadan statement also urged Nigerians, especially the Muslim faithful, to pray for a peaceful general elections by 2019.
The former Niger State Commissioner of Information and Strategy however called on Muslim faithful not to engage themselves in acts that would trigger crisis throughout the Ramadan and beyond.
He said: “I want to enjoin all to fervently pray for Nigeria to have everlasting peace, enduring security and a good economic stand. If we continue to pray, everything about this country will become okay again.”
Vatsa urged Nigerians to move closer and appeal to God to solve the country’s challenges especially security and kidnapping that have bedevilled the nation.
Vatsa also charged members of the APC in the state to in the spirit of sportsmanship come together to build a stronger party for the 2019 general elections.
He warned that continued violence will not help the party, adding: “We should all support President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Abubakar Sani Bello to succeed by embracing peace.
“We should use this Ramadan season to sheath our sword and forgive one another so that the almighty God can forgive us.”
In his Ramadan message, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace, Governor Bello affirmed that there can never be a better time for us as a people to begin to forgive one another and consciously seek the path of reconciliation in the interest of our country and the generations yet unborn.
He said: “This Holy blessed month has offered us the golden opportunity to retrace our steps, deliberately strive to sincerely forgive one another and chart the course of national reconciliation at this critical period of our nationhood.”
The governor also pleaded with the traders to “avoid the temptation to hike the prices of commodities”.
