Ivorian President, Alassane Ouattara, has asked the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire to triumph over Greece in their final group stage match at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
A statement on Monday from the Ivorian Presidency in Abidjan quoted the National Assembly President, Guillaume Soro, as delivering the message on Sunday when he visited the team in Brazil.
It said Soro was in Brazil to watch the country’s second Group C game at Brazil 2014 against Colombia on June 19, which ended 2-1 against Cote d’Ivoire.
The statement also quoted Soro as announcing to the team that Ouattara had promised to double their match bonus if they win the last group game.
The statement quoted Soro as saying: “The President of the Republic asked me to tell you that Ivorians are proud of you.
“We are proud of you, in spite of the loss.
“You were brave against Colombia
“He also instructed me to inform you that your match bonus against Greece will be doubled if you come out victorious after the game.”
The Ivorian national team had beaten Japan 2-1 on June 15 in their first game in the group stage.
They now need a win against Greece on Tuesday to advance to the second round.
