PPA to retain name for Anambra elections

The National Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, Chief Sam Nkire, has said that his party would go into the Anambra State local government area and governorship elections with its old name, PPA.
Nkire said that the party, based on the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission, would not be contesting the election with its proposed name, the All Progressive Peoples Alliance.
In a statement in Abuja on Monday, Nkire said while the issue of non approval of the new name by INEC is being handled by the leadership, the party would go ahead to stand for the elections in Anambra State with the old name, PPA.
According to the PPA national chairman, the important thing for now is to ensure that Anambra State voters who were used to the name PPA were not distracted or confused at this time that campaigns were hotting up.
Nkire advised all aspirants for both governorship and local government elections in Anambra State to heed this directive while producing their campaign materials.
According to him, “there is still a long time for electioneering and campaign”.
