Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission over what he described as 100 per cent anti-rigging procedure adopted for the ongoing elections in the country.
Umahi expressed his feelings shortly after casting his vote at the Onuofukwuru voting centre in Egu-ugwu, Umunaga ward in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of the State.
The Governor, who voted at the Unit with his wife, Rachael, also.expressed delight with the level of preparation by INEC, admonishing politicians not to put studs in the process through inordinate conducts.
He further expressed satisfaction with the level of voter turnout in the State, adding that over 95 per cent of the registered voters were on ground to cast their votes across the State.
Umahi said: “The preparation, I must commend the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
“I am very satisfied with all the templates put together by him to ensure free and fair election and if we have any hitches, it must be from the politicians.
“The procedure is excellent; 100 per cent anti-rigging procedure.
“I want to commend him very, very highly and to say that he has proven that he loves this nation.
“And I also commend our own Resident Electoral Commissioner.
“He has been very neutral, impartial and attends to all the political parties
“So, I am very satisfied.
“The turn out here is quite very, very impressive and that is what we are getting throughout Ebonyi State.
“The turn out is over 95 percent of the registered voters.”
At Ishiogo Polling unit, UmuObuna ward, Uburu, where large number of voter were on queue, there was a complaint on non-functionality of the card reader.
Speaking to journalists shortly after casting his votes, the State Coordinator of Atiku/Obi Campaign Organization, Chief Emmanuel Obasi, expressed disappointment with the development, but noted that INEC has provided two Card Readers for each polling unit, which has remedied the development.
Obasi corroborated the impressive turn out of voters, predicting that Atiku Abubarkar and the Peoples Democratic Party would carry the day.
He advised other political parties to play by the rules.
Another voter, Queen Agwu, noted that the PDP administration on the State under Umahi has impacted positively in the lives of the people and expressed optimism that the party would sweep the polls.
Agwu condemned election rigging, adding that any political party which has performed well should be able to prove it at the polls.
