The Imo Police Command says it has launched surveillance to arrest suspected killers of Ifeanyi Ozoemena, Chairman, All Progressives Congress, Logara/Umuohiagu Ward in Ngor-Okpala LGA.
The Commissioner of Police in Imo, Mr Dasuki Galandachi, gave the assurance in Owerri on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
Ozoemena was murdered by suspected gunmen on Tuesday night after presiding over a party meeting in the ward in preparation for the postponed elections.
The situation threw APC members in the council area into mourning.
The commissioner of police has, however, called for calm.
Galandachi said that the suspects would soon be arrested, adding that security forces had been deployed to restore peace in the area.
He said: “I assure the family members of Ozoemena, APC members and the general public that the suspected killers of the APC chieftain will be tracked down soon.”
