One Chief Young Norbert Okafor has been rescued from the den of notorious armed kidnappers in Delta State.
The victim, 81-year-old chieftain of Umudei Quarters, Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha Local Government Area of the state, was abducted on his way to church.
Okafor was on his was for the morning mass in his dark ash colour Mercedes Benz with registration number BF 499 KTU when the hoodlums pounced on him.
He was immediately taken into the bush between Ogwashi-Uku and Issele-Asagba by the gang.
It was from there they demanded for N1 million ransom.
The acting Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Charles Muka, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, who confirmed the incident, said: “The gang has been responsible for the upsurge of cases of kidnap in Ogwashi-Uku and its environs.
“Luck however ran out for them along Ogwashi-Uku/Issele-Asagba Road as they were trying to collect N850,000 ransom.
“Those gunned down included Onyema Ahijo (24 years) a.k.a Biggy 100, who happens to be the leader of the gang and organizer of the kidnap; Eze Ogugua (21 years) an OND Business Administration drop out at Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic; and one Lucky Onochie (24 years), an interior decorator at Ogwashi-Uku town.”
The fatally wounded leader of the gang confessed to have embarked on a revenge mission after the victim placed a curse on his family before they were confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.
Angered by the development, irate youths of Ogwashi-Uku went on rampage, set fire on the houses and other properties of the suspects’ families.
The command has however warned youths across the state to desist from taking the law into their hands.
