Police recover 171 arms, 795 ammunition in Plateau

The Commissioner of Police in Plateau, Undie Adie, on Friday said the command had recovered 171 arms and 795 rounds of ammunition in the state.
Adie, who disclosed this during a news conference in Jos, said the recovery was in compliance with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
Idris said: ‘‘In compliance with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to all state commands to mop-up illegal and prohibited arms, Plateau command promptly commenced the exercise which has so far yielded positive results.
Idris said: ‘‘We have recovered 171 arms which include 40 automatic riffles and 131 locally made guns.
‘‘Also, we recovered 795 rounds of ammunition which include 7.62mm and .9 round of ammunition.
‘‘We were able to recover 131 cartridges from members of the public.’’
Adie urged members of the public to voluntarily surrender their arms before April 30, the expiration date of the window for the exercise.
Similarly, Adie told newsmen that the command recovered 11 stolen vehicles from February to date in the state.
The commissioner said four suspects, identified as: Abdullahi Mohammed, Sani Idris, Dauda Abubakar, and Abubakar Ibrahim were arrested in connection with the theft of the vehicles.
Adie said that the vehicles were recovered in Zaria, Kaduna, Enugu and Ebonyi states through intensive investigations and interrogations by officers and men of the command.
He added that investigations into the case had reached advanced stage, adding that the suspects would soon be charged to court.
He called on members of the public to support the police in its bid to stamp out crimes in the state.
