The Organisation for the Concern of Less Privileged and Displaced Citizens in Zamfara State has lauded the Zamfara State Police Command for conducting speedy investigation into the alleged murder of a prominent politician, Magaji Lawal.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that he was before his death a political associate of Senator Kabir Marafa.
Lawal allegedly died in the custody of the Community Protection Guard, a government-owned vigilance group.
He was reportedly invited by the group and detained in its office in Tsafe Town, the Headquarters of the Tsafe Local Government Area, on the allegation that he was romancing with bandits.
Speaking at a news briefing in Gusau on Thursday, the Chairman of the organisation, Mallam Murtala Ibrahim, commended the Zamfara State Police Command for accelerating the process of its investigation into Lawal’s alleged murder case.
The commendation was coming against the backdrop of the arrest of some members of CPG in connection with Lawal’s mysterious death.

Ibrahim said: “We are writing to commend the Zamfara Police Command for its commitment in investigating the case of Magaji Lawal, who was allegedly killed by suspected members of CPG.”
He said that the revelation by the Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Dalijan, on the investigation process was encouraging, with the arrest of more suspects, including the former CPG State Commandant, Colonel Rabiu Yandoto (retd.).
He added: “On this we commend the police for their commitment to an impartial investigation, unaffected by political connections.
“This dedication to justice is truly commendable.”
Ibrahim urged the police not to rest on their oars until all those behind the killing of innocent people, particularly Lawal and Hassan Mada, were arrested and brought to justice.
The group also commended the State Government for sacking Yandoto from CPG and further urged the government to ensure that justice was served to the bereaved families.
Ibrahim added: “As patriotic citizens and activists for justice, we stand in solidarity with the Magaji family and offer our support to their quest for justice.
“We have assembled a team of lawyers to assist the family in seeking justice for its loved one.”
