The inaugural sitting of the 8th Assembly of the Plateau State House of Assembly ended abruptly on Tuesday as members disagreed over the leadership of the House.
The election of the speaker was inconclusive after a hot battle between the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Peter Azi, and that of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Istifanus Mwangsat.
In a battle that lasted for over six hours at the chamber of the Plateau State House of Assembly complex, venue of the sitting, Azi and Mwangsat both scored 12 votes.
The Eagle Online reports that even as the APC and the PDP were given an opportunity to go and reconcile, they failed to reach a compromise.
This compelled the Clerk to announce the rescheduling of the election.
However, there was confusion among the supporters of the APC and PDP in Plateau State who were seen leaving the Assembly complex.
