Dr Maimuna Bello, a Paediatrician, has advised parents and communities to always show love and give adequate care to children living with Cerebral palsy.
Bello gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja.
She flayed the situation whereby children with cerebral palsy are ostracised by their parents, families and communities.
According to her, showing love and affection to children with cerebral palsy would enable them to live their lives and attain their goals.
She said: “Children with cerebral palsy are entitled to full and effective enjoyment of all fundamental human rights and freedom.
“Cerebral palsy usually causes varying degrees of intellectual, physical disability and associated medical issues.
“Cerebral palsy is a naturally occurring chromosomal arrangement that has always been part of a human condition.”
She therefore called for special attention for children with cerebral palsy and stressed the need to love and integrate them in the society.
Bello said that it was the right of every child to be cared for, adding that children with cerebral palsy required a multi-disciplinary healthcare approach.
According to her, children with cerebral palsy have many health challenges, including internal organs abnormalities, recurrent infection, mental retardation and stunted growth, among others.
She added that children with this condition needed physiotherapy.
