The Senate on Monday described the call by Peoples Democratic Party for the impeachment President Muhammadu Buhari as a big joke of the year.
The party called for BUhari’s impeachment over alleged constitutional breaches on the 2016 budget proposal.
The party last week called on the National Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against Buhari for allegedly submitting two versions of the 2016 budget.
However, briefing newsmen, the Senate Leader, Senator Muhammed ali Ndume, said: “If we considered what PDP has done to Nigeria for the past 16 years in power, Nigeria ought to have killed the PDP.
“Therefore, the call for impeachment is just a joke of the year.”
According to Ndume, the call for Buhari’s impeachment by the PDP is a big joke of the year considering the damage the party had done to this country for the past 16 years in government.
On the submission of two versions of budget, Ndume explained the integrity check conducted on the first budget made it necessary for minor adjustment.
He said: “If not for mix up, we would have gone to the next stage in our legislative activities on the budget.
“It was the integrity check that made the changes necessary on quantity and not on the total budget sum.”
Ndume said they are working towards passing the 2016 budget by the end of next month to enable the Federal Government execute projects.
On Naira depreciation, he said the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, is expected to brief the Senate on the issue on Tuesday, adding that the meeting may be a closed session.
