PDP to Jonathan: Call Gulak, others to order

The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has condemned the recent bombing in Nyanya, on the outskirts of Abuja, and the kidnap of school girls in Chibok, Borno State.
The party said all forms of terrorism and its manifestations in the country should be stopped in the interest peace and the progress.
This was just as the party called on President Goodluck Jonathan to warn some of his aides such as his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, against causing disaffection in states of the Federation through their comments and actions.
The PDP said this may not augur well for the party, adding that it has officially zoned the governorship position in the state for 2015 to Eket Senatorial District.
In a communique at the end of a State Executive Committee meeting of the PDP in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, and read by the state Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo, the party condemned Gulak’s recent visit to Akwa Ibom State to campaign for support for the President without due regard to the extant authority in the state.
The meeting, which passed a vote of confidence on President Jonathan; the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Muazu; Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State; and all members of the PDP National Working Committee for their outstanding performance, said: “The meeting condemned the ignoble and contemptuous role of Alhaji Gulak, who visited the state recently and threw all known protocols overboard in purporting to inaugurate a sectional and unknown Support Group in favour of our dear President without bothering to pay any courtesies to the leadership of the party in the state.”
The party further advised Gulak to “sort out PDP’s problems in Adamawa State and to deliver Adamawa State to Jonathan before rushing to safe territories like the South South where the President requires no campaign and desist from further interference in the affairs of the state, “as we do not need the assistance of any outsider to campaign here for Mr. President.”
Explaining the party’s decision to zone the governorship position to Eket, which has never produced the governor of the state, the communiqué stated: “Pursuant to Section 7 (3) of the Party Constitution 2012 (as amended) stipulating adherence to the policy of the rotation and zoning of Party and public elective offices in pursuance of the principle of equity, justice and fairness, the meeting zones the governorship position to Eket Senatorial District.”
Akpabio had earlier commended the State Executive Committee and highlighted functions of the committee to include resolving political, social and economic issues.
He said: “In a state where you have this Executive Committee meeting, it is meant to resolve issues, political, social and economic.
“It also undertakes the general administration of the party and implements the decision of the National Working Committee of the party and the decision of the National Convention.”
Akpabio further asked the state chairman of the party to sensitise PDP faithful on those who are supposed to be the leaders of PDP in the state.
The meeting lauded the Town Hall meetings embarked upon by the state government, describing it as unprecedented, timely, inspiring and most welcome.
Ir said it was in agreement with the decisions reached at the various Town Hall meetings held in the 10 Federal Constituencies, the decisions of the party’s State Working Committee and those of the body of chapter chairmen of the party and the body of Local Government Chairmen/Vice-Chairmen.
In attendance at the meeting were Akpabio; the deputy governor; the state chairman of the party, Obong Paul Ekpo; state officers of the party; the Deputy Speaker, leading other leaders of the State House of Assembly; Senators and other members of National Assembly (past and present); all Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen of Local Government Councils; and chapter chairmen of the party, among others.
