The National Assembly says it is in full support of President Muhammadu Buhari’s fight against corruption and promised to do its best in supporting the President to change the psyche of the public on the issue of corruption.
The Member representing Jos North/Bassa Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Suleimen Yahaya Kwande, made the position of the lawmakers known at his Jos, Plateau State residence while chatting with journalists.
Kwande criticized critics of President Buhari’s fight against corruption on the premise that the probe is targeted at Peoples Democratic Party members alone.
Kwande said the probe not targeted at anybody by those who served during the past PDP administration that ran government for well over 16 years.
He said: “It is shameful for anyone to say that the probe is targeted at some certain people.
“This is a very simple issue.
“The government in the past was the PDP and it is the PDP government that is being probed.
“So if it were APGA or APC government that was in power, it is going to be APC or APGA that is going to be probed.
“The person that is saying: ‘I gave this person money is a PDP man and not APC’ and he is not saying he gave APC man the money.
“People are just being sentimental on issues and when someone is corrupt, he is just corrupt whether he or she is APC or PDP.
“Look at the list he gave from Hausa to Fulani, from Yuruba to Igbo and from Christians to Muslims and so on, he did not select.
“So nobody should cry foul that they are being persecuting PDP.”
On the issue of the hike on electricity tariff, Kwande urged the labour unions to dialogue with the government, adding that there should be a kind of compromise whereby the increase on the tariff is reversed by the government.
He said he was also a victim having bought a credit unit of N2000 just to finish within 24 hours, stressing that coming to terms with the economic reality, “I think the increase should stop”.
On the economic hardship being faced by many, Kwande called on all Nigerians to be more patient, support the current administration by enduring with the President’s plan of economic diversification, more so that crude oil is no more favourable to the economy.
He said: “Nigerians should understand with the economic reality.
“Things are hard.
“I hope it will get better.
“We depend too much on crude oil and now that God wants to use a good leader to make us diversify to other means because we were so reluctant on the oil.
“So let pray that God has given us a good leader that would change our psyche from oil to agriculture and we need to support the President.”
Kwande applauded the Plateau State Government over its plan to expand the act of governance by creating more village areas, districts and chiefdoms, adding that he will do his possible best to ensure that communities within his constituency of Jos Noirth/Bassa that have submitted their memos are considered in the exercise.
He further called on his constituents to remain in peace and tolerate one another and also support Governor Simon Lalong’s administration to deliver the dividend of good governance to the people.
