Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, has declared that his party was not in any way prepared to relinquish power to any opposition party, as the party prepares for the 2015 general election.
Akpabio, who stated this on Friday at the funeral service of the late Hon. Justice Regina Obiageli Nwodo in Ukehe, Nsukka, Enugu State, noted: “It is very clear that this country is large and the fate of over 160 million people cannot be toyed with or left in the hands of parties that change their names like chameleon”.
The governor said the opposition parties have within the past years witnessed name changes and by “2015 they may have up to 11 names.
“The Peoples Democratic Party remains the same now and forever just like the word of God Almighty. God does not change. Our party does not change too.”
Akpabio condoled with Dr. John Nwodo on the death of his wife, describing the deceased as “a towering legal mind, who served on the bench with integrity, boundless dedication, utmost humility and the fear of God”.
Akpabio said he was at the funeral both as a family member and as the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum to identify with a prominent PDP family in Enugu, noting that by the death of Justice Nwodo, “Nigeria has lost an outstanding person and an eminent jurist”.
