PDP governors to security agencies: Develop new strategies

Governors under the aegis of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum over the weekend tasked security agencies to work out new strategies in order to step up the fight against the Boko Haram sect, which has killed so many and destroyed properties.
The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio, said while reading the communiqué of the 3rd PDP Governors Forum meeting at the Government House, Minna, that the forum sympathises with the families of the victims.
Akpabio said: “The forum appreciate and commend efforts of the security agents in fighting the insurgents in the country. We want the security chiefs to work out new strategies in order step up their fights to combat the insurgents.
“We condemn the barbaric slaughter of innocent students in Yobe State by members of the Boko Haram sect as well as other wanton killings in the country.”
Governor Akpabio also noted with satisfaction the zeal and enthusiasm shown by Nigerians across board about the upcoming National Conference, adding: “We however urge participants to put national interest above other interests.”
The Forum congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan for the successful hosting of the centenary celebration of the country and Nigerians for attaining 100 years of togetherness as a people and country.
It also congratulated the President Goodluck Jonathan, the PDP National Chairman and other keys officials and members of the party for the success recorded in the unity rallies in Sokoto, Owerri, Ilorin, Katsina and the recent one in Minna.
It therefore appealed to aggrieved members to work means and ways of reconciling all issues as the party strives to re-position itself ahead of the 2015 general election.
The next meeting of the PDP Governors had now been slated for April 8 and 9, 2014 in Jigawa State.
