Manny Pacquiao was forced to rest on Wednesday after suffering an eye injury during his first sparring session in General Santos City.
But his trainer, Freddie Roach, told Philboxing’s Eddie Alinea that there is nothing to worry about.
“It’s just that he hurt his eye during sparring yesterday and I thought maybe he needs another day of rest,” said the hall-of-fame boxing coach.
Pacquiao’s childhood friend, Buboy Fernandez, echoed Roach’s statement, saying: “Ganyan talaga kahit sinong boxer, sa first day ng sparring diyan magsasakitan ang parte ng katawan mo. And Manny is not an exception.”
Fernandez also said the session revealed the condition of Pacquiao’s right shoulder which underwent surgery after the Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight.
He said the Filipino champion was able to move his shoulder normally, which was an indication that it has already healed.
“What we’re happy about is his shoulder which got injured and was operated on as a result of his losing cause against Mayweather is no longer hurting,” said Fernandez.
“Bukas sparring day uli, tingnan mo, masiglang-masigla na naman yan.”
