The Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has described the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, as a fountain of knowledge whose exceptional leadership role has contributed to the peace and development aspiration of Nigeria.
Aliyu, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Israel A. Ebije, said Nigeria needs traditional leaders like the Ooni for guidance in the area of moral chastity, cultural ethos and traditional values.
He said the values are fast disappearing among Nigerians.
He said it is the absence of the traditional norms and values that has given rise to the growing trend of crime in the country.
He said the monarch is celebrated on account of his commitment to serve his people, with sense of purpose and resolve to retain best practice cultural variables in his kingdom.
He said: “Let me congratulate Oba Sijuade on his 85th birthday celebration. He has lived this long to inspire future generations of Nigerians on the need to remain committed to the ‘Nigeria project’ regardless of interest, ethnicity or religion.
“He has made friends across region, religion and political affinity, which indeed is a reflection of what a true leader should be. Nigeria of today need exemplary leaders in the traditional institution who are like the Ooni of Ife to promote more patriotic agenda towards a united and prosperous country.”
Aliyu said at 85, the Ooni has left indelible mark in his kingdom and is still contributing meaningfully to national discuss.
He prayed God will grant him many more fruitful years ahead to serve humanity.
