The Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has said only a united Nigeria as envisioned by our founding fathers can guarantee our development, stressing: “Remaining as one country is the best for all of us.”
Bello stated this on Monday when the Emir of Minna, Dr. Umar Farouq Bahago, and members of his Emirate Council paid him a sallah homage to the Government House in Minna, the state capital.
Bello emphasized the need for Nigerians to continue to live in peace and harmony like our forefathers did by exhibiting tolerance and understanding among themselves, adding that the area of differences can always be resolved amicably through dialogue.
He cautioned and called for cessation of hate speeches by some sections of the country, stressing that unguarded and inflammatory statements aŕe detrimental to peaceful co-existence of our people.
He said: “We should embrace peace.
“Our forefathers fought and lost their lives to keep this country together.
“We should not allow their sacrifice to go in vain.
“I strongly believe that we can progress more as one nation despite the differences in culture, religion and ethnic groups.”
The Governor also called on farmers and herdsmen to sheath their sword and embrace peace.
He argued that farm land and herds are not enough a reason to kill one another.
He however commended the security agencies in the state for their zero tolerance to criminal activities and also assured them of government’s support to enable them carry out their responsibilities.
Bahago had earlier called for peace and cautioned those beating the drum of discord to desist as their actions are inimical to development and progress of the country.
The royal father commended the massive developmental efforts of Bello and security agencies in the state for their efforts so far in fighting criminal activities in the state.
