The Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on Sunday started his administration by appointing Chief Ovie Agas as the Secretary to the State Government.
Agas, a former member of the state House Assembly, who represented Ughelli South II for eight years, relinquished the seat for an indigene of his constituency to benefit during the 2011 general election.
The former lawmaker was said to have worked assiduously during the April 11, 2015 governorship and House of Assembly election in the state for Okowa and the Peoples Democratic Party.
The governor, who restated his desire to lead the state by example, charged those who will be appointed into his cabinet to be accountable or get ready to be shown the way out.
Announcing Agas’s appointment during his thanksgiving reception in Asaba on Sunday, Okowa said: “Let me congratulate Chief Ovie Agas who has just been appointed as the Secretary to the State Government.”
The announcement threw the mammoth crowd of supporters into jubilation, forcing hundreds of loyalists of Agas to file out in dancing steps in appreciation for the gesture.
Governor Okowa thereafter vowed to build a Delta State of the citizen’s dream, reiterating his willingness to commit himself to the new order by recognizing and catering for the yearnings and aspirations of the citizens of the state.
He said: “The future that we all seek has no room for parochial interests and selfish ambition.
“We must steer the course of our vision and agenda and be prepared to run the affairs of governance differently, paying more attention the voice of our people and no shy away from admitting the mistakes of the past and create opportunities for our people to participate and partner with government.”
Okowa maintained that the good of all would take precedence over personal gains in his administration, urging those that will find themselves in his government to be committed to same or be shown the way out.
