Obi’s APGA faction apologies to Okorie

The leadership of the Governor Peter Obi of Anmabra State faction of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, led by its Interim National Chairman, Chief Maxi Okwu, paid a courtesy visit to the founder of APGA and National Chairman of the United Progressives Party, Chief Chekwas Okorie, at his (Chekwas) private residence in Enugu, Enugu State.
Speaking during the meeting, Okwu, who said they came on the visit for reconciliation, also will apologized to Okorie for all the wrongs and injustice he suffered during the eight years of crisis in the party, which led to removal of Okorie as the national chairman of the party.
His words: “We came here to apologize to you. We have realized that a lot of wrongs have been done to you in the past, but since I took over as national chairman of the party, I deemed it fit that members of the party should reconcile with you.”
Responding to their apology, Okorie said he was glad that his vindication was coming while he was still alive.
Going down memory lane, he re-called how he was frustrated out of the party through selfish propaganda.
He said despite the spirited efforts he made to effect reconciliation, those who were working against him never gave peace a chance.
He said: “It is on record that twenty five attempts were made to make peace so that APGA will remain, but all of them were rebuffed.
“We attended all of them but they did not attend one.
“I am so happy today that I am alive to see my own vindication; this visit is significant to me in so many ways.
“If you check DNA of both the APGA and the UPP, they are the same thing.
“Today, we are debunking the belief that Igbo people are incapable of reconciliation. I will say in the spirit of Easter that we shall forgive one another.”
Okorie urged the former APGA chairman, Chief Victor Umeh, to seek for forgiveness, stressing: “He has boxed himself into a corner; he is now a political orphan, he caused it.
“I advise him to repent, to amend his ways, to embrace the path of rectitude. I advise him to do what is happening today so that God can forgive him his sins.”.
He called on Umeh’s sponsors to desist from supporting him.
He said: “It is a bad investment. It will lead to waste and destruction.”
On the 2015 presidential race, Okorie said nothing would stop Ndigbo from producing the next president.
He said: “Let it be known that in 2015, Igbo man will enter into Aso Rock. I am not making a political statement. I have never said anything that God did not bless.”
