Former Nigerian striker, Chinedu Obasi, has joined the league of players in the Chinese League after penning a year deal with Chinese second division club, Shenzhen FC.
“I won’t disclose what Chinedu is on, but what I can safely tell you is that he has recovered all the money he lost when he did not play for two straight years at Schalke,” a close source to the player revealed exclusively.
“It compares to what the top clubs in the Chinese Super League offered him.
“He’s more than happy with this deal.”
And besides the money side of the offer, Obasi opted for ambitious Shenzhen as they are owned by the richest man in China, who targets promotion to the top league next year, and they are managed by former England boss Sven Goran-Erikson.
“Chinedu is willing to take the risk to move to China and he has been encouraged by the presence of Eriksson, who is a Swede and knows what he did at AIK last year,” added the source, who was part of the party for the signing in China this week.
“The team is very ambitious and that was why the owner sacked Clarence Seedorf when he could win them promotion last year.
“That kind of scenario is not new to Chinedu as he joined Hoffenheim in the second division in Germany and helped them to gain promotion to the Bundesliga.”
