In his characteristic manner, former President Olusegun Obasanjo left reporters guessing during an unscheduled courtesy visit to Governor Adams Oshiomhole at the Government House, Benin City, on Sunday.
The visit, coming just a few days after the former President resigned as Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, left tongues wagging as to the motive, prompting the reporters to swarm round him, firing one question after the other.
Obasanjo, however, deflected the questions posed to him.
He simply said: “Thank you very much, thank you very much.”
Obasanjo, accompanied by his wife, later went into a closed doors meeting with Oshiomhole for about 10 minutes, after which he emerged and told the reporters that the visit was a private one.
He said: “I must not be in Benin City without calling on the governor.
“I will come back and then there will be opportunity to talk.
“But for now, thank you very much.”
Every effort to make the former President to disclose his mission to Benin City proved abortive, as he insisted he will return to the state at a later date during which he would properly address the press.
