Justice O. Ogala of a Lagos High Court on Tuesday ordered all parties embroiled in the broadcast rights suit of the Nigeria Premier League to maintain status quo until the appearance before the court of the League Management Company on January 8, 2014.
The judge, after hearing the submissions of Total Promotions Limited, the plaintiff, ordered the LMC and the Nigeria Football League to revert to status quo until the substantial suit is determined.
This order was sequel to a suit brought before the court by Total Promotions Limited, which claimed that LMC and NFL had reneged on an earlier agreement it entered into with the defendants.
TPL lawyers, led by Bambo Adesanya (SAN), had stated that the statement of claim, writ of summons and application for interlocutory injunction were served on both LMC and NFL on November 20, 2013 and that as at December 10, 2013, TPL was yet to receive any reply from both parties.
TPL therefore asked for a temporary injunction to prevent the LMC from doing anything until its appearance in court on January 8, 2014.
The judge granted the order by ordering all parties to maintain status quo until LMC’s appearance in court on January 8, 2014.
It should be recalled that Total Promotions recently gave the LMC an ultimatum to honour all contractual agreements between both parties or it shall seek legal redress
Total Promotions had earlier agreed to pull out of any possible law suits, especially the title rights, subject to GLO, which had earlier agreed to buy the property from the rightful winner of the bid for N100 million, within a specific date.
Glo failed to meet its obligations within the timeframe.
Both Total Promotions and Globacom, have been enmeshed in legal tussles for the past three years over who won the Title Rights Bid.
Total Promotions had stated that it had given the LMC some time to honour the agreement or face a law suit.
