Salisu Yusuf, the Head Coach of Rangers International Football Club, says he is hopeful the Flying Antelopes will defeat Enyimba International FC in their outstanding fixture in Enugu on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League Match Day 19 fixture was to be played on April 4, but it was shifted because of Enyimba’s continental engagement.
Yusuf told newsmen after his team’s training session on Friday that they were set to ensure a win against the visiting People’s Elephant of Aba.
He said: “We are prepared.
“Just like any other league match, there are three points at stake and we are working towards getting it.
“We are optimistic of picking the maximum points.
“Though we are not God, it is the desire of every team to win all matches they go into.
“For us, Enyimba will go back empty-handed because we need the points to enhance our chances of winning the league.”
The coach said a win would put the club back in contention for the league trophy as it would lift them to the fourth position on the table.
“With a win on Sunday, then only three points will separate us from the league leaders, Kwara United.
“Being in that position will brighten our chances because anything can happen before the end of the season,” he added.
Yusuf evaluated the club’s performance in the current league, saying they had done well so far but needed to improve in the second stanza.
He called on the league organisers to find a better way to ensure that the league does not end abruptly.
He said: “I will be disappointed if the league ends abruptly because this will be the third or fourth time in a row the league has ended halfway.
“Ending the league halfway does not sound well for Nigerian football.
“The league needs to be well organised and there should be conscious efforts to ensure it starts at the same time with other leagues in the world, so that it will end at the same time.”
