The Ogun State Police Command has warned commercial motorcyclists against unruly and violent conducts whenever there is an accident involving any of their members.
The command in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, noted that okada riders are in the habit of violently attacking any motorist involved in an accident with their member, and in most cases preventing accident victims from being taken to hospital for medical attention.
It, therefore, warned that such unruly behaviour would no longer be tolerated and anybody or group who embarks on such unlawful act will henceforth be arrested and prosecuted.
Oyeyemi said: “An example of such barbaric behaviour was the unfortunate accident that happened on Friday 7th of May 2021, at Kotopo area of Abeokuta, where a motorcyclist was knocked down by a vehicle.
“Instead of his colleagues to allow him to be taken to a hospital for treatment, they became so violent and in the process the victim died without being allowed to be attended to.”
Oyeyemi added that no responsible police command would allow such unnecessary loss of lives to continue, adding: “Therefore, whoever embarks on such barbaric behaviour in future will be made to feel the full weight of the law.”
