No extension for foreign-based Falconets after deadline — Media Officer

Monica Iheakam, the Media Officer of the U-20 national team, the Falconets, says that there will be no extension of the deadline for arrival in camp for foreign-based Falconets.
Iheakam spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Lagos against the backdrop of some of the players who have yet to report to their Serob Legacy Hotel Camp, Abuja.
NAN reports that the Coach, Peter Dedevbo, had invited 25 players into the camp, including 19 local-based and six foreign-based players for the U-20 World Cup in Papua New Guinea.
To make adequate preparations for the U-20 Women World Cup at the tiny nation on the Pacific Ocean, the team’s managers opened camp on September 27.
On the lateness of the foreign-based players to the camp, the team’s spokesperson said those who failed to beat the deadline should forget about the tournament.
Iheakam said: “The coach has said that there will be no extension of deadline to the foreign-based. The coach has given a concession because of their commitments to their clubs engagement in champions’ league.
“So far two of the foreign-based have reported to the camp remaining four but whether they report or not, the camp must go on.
“The spirit in camp is high and we are expected to perform well at the World Cup. We have the players that can do the nations proud.
“Note that we also have a rich history playing in the tournament and we hope to surpass the previous achievements.”
NAN reports that Nigeria is in Group B of the competition alongside Spain, Canada and Japan.
Nigeria was twice runners-up of the biennial championship, losing at both finals to Germany.
Nigeria lost to host, Germany, in 2010 and also narrowly lost to the same country in Canada in the extra time.
The best player of the tournament and highest goal scorer was won by Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala with seven goals at the tournament.
The players invited to camp include Sandra Chichi (Sunshine Stars), Patient Kalu (Rivers Angels), Kemi Famuditi (Confluence Queens), Yetunde Adeboyejo (Bayelsa Queens) and Ugochi Emanayo (Nasarawa Amazons).
Others are Chinaza Uchendu (Nasarawa Amazons), Ogechi Ukwuoma (Delta Queens), Glory Ogbonna (Ibom Queens), Ginika Ikeh (Nasarawa Amazons), Amarachi Ojinma (Rivers Angels), Tessy Biahwo (Nasarawa Amazons) and Mercy Vincent (Confluence Queens).
The foreign-based are Uchenna Kanu (US), Valane Awelewa (Belgium), Aminat Yakubu (Belarus), Chinwendu Ihezuo (Kazakhstan), Chinwelu Ihezuo (Bilk Zazygat, Belarus) and Christy Ohiaeriaku (IFKO Stersund Sweeden).
