A senior member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Chief Sam Nkire, has expressed his support for the bill against offensive and dangerous religious preachings as proposed by Governor El-Rufai of Kaduna State.
Reacting to the opposition against the bill, Nkire said the bill, when passed into law, would rather assist government in tackling the spate of hate preachings now going on all over the country.
The APC chieftain added that he also believed that government at both federal and state levels owed it a duty to protect the masses against false preachings of some evil pastors and imams who swindle members of the public in the name of religion.
Nkire, the son of a pentecostal bishop himself, reminded false preachers whose preachings cause both religious and ethnic conflicts, of God’s punishment, which awaits them at the end of time.
He told Nigerians to be careful of some religious leaders who claim to have heard from Prophet Mohammed, Jesus Christ or even God Almighty, adding that some of them may rather have been sent by the devil to cause conflict among Nigerians.
According to the APC chieftain, there is nothing wrong with a progressive government making a law to protect its people from the deceits of those he described as “religious crooks and tribal jingoists”.
He therefore urged the Kaduna State House of Assembly to consider and pass the bill into law as quickly as possible.
