The Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, Plateau State chapter has in the pipeline plans to organize training for officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force on security and information management.
The branch Chairman, Dr. Felix Otuwarikpo, promised to partner with the Plateau State Police Command in organizing regular meetings with traditional rulers in rural communities to end incessant attacks and killings of innocent people.
Speaking at the Plateau State Command Police headquarters on Friday, Otuwarikpo said the public has a lot of misconception on how to understand modern policing.
He said: “We want them to understand the importance of police to the society.
“NIPR wants to partner with Plateau State Command to create enlightenment in rural communities by holding regular town hall meeting on peace parley.”
Dr Otuwarikpo said the sole aim of their visit was to commend the State Command for the proactive measure taken on the killing of Saf Ron kulere, Lazaru Agai, which shows that they are responsive and will not allow breakdown of law and order.
He disclosed that the Nigerian Police Force stands a better chance to benefit from regular training on internal security and civil relations.
According to him, the NIPR has vowed to fish out quacks parading themselves as members of the body in organizations without the prerequisite knowledge required for the practice.
He said: “We have assembled our team of lawyers to deal with those quacks operating as PRO in organizations.
“The fact that somebody passed through university cannot make him to continue to cause damage to the profession.”
Dr. Otuwarikpo assured the police boss of their intention to offer regular training to the police personnels to upgrade the knowledge on civil/police relations in fighting crimes in the urban and rural communities.
The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Adekunle Oladunjoye, assured the NIPR that the command will partner it to see how to enlighten the general public on the need to improve the well being of the society.
Oladunjoye said: “I want the general public to understand that the new modern police personnel we have today are very educated and are ready not to disclose their source of information.”
Oladunjoye urged citizens to provide useful information to the police on the killers of the monarch and that nobody will reveal their identity.
