Cake maestro and entrepreneur, Tosan Jemide, says he is passionate about building a state-of-the-art cake school that will certify people in globally accepted standards in cake designs.
Jemide spoke at the public presentation of his book: “Sugar Icing; Grits and Glory,” at Lekki Coliseum, Victoria Island, Lagos on Friday.
He said the institution would teach young entrepreneurs interested in the craft to properly structure their businesses and keep records that could help them to obtain loans from banks.
“One of my proudest achievements is baking a 20ft cake and I look forward to the day Sugar-craft will add value to the culture of our society,” he said.
Jemide said the desire to teach young entrepreneurs how to surmount pressures at different stages of life and to become successful inspired him to write the book.
He said: “Sugar Icing Grits and Glory is a book that I have written from my heart which talks about different phases of my life and some experiences I have gone through.
“It is an abridged version of my life which I needed to share to encourage businessmen in this line of business understand that it is not over until it is over.”
Jemide said his journey to success was initially rough because he was confused and also dealing with the feeling of failure but knew that he had to succeed against all odds.
He said: “In the year 2000, I arrived Nigeria from London with only two suitcases and 200 pounds in my pocket.
“I did not know what I was coming to meet and was very confused because I had not been in the country for a long time.
“There was a lot of trepidation but there was also a lot of determination, knowing that I cannot afford to lose.
“It was this spirit that spurred me on.
“I started Cakes by Tosan in a small cubicle while living in my sister’s one-bedroom-apartment.
“I give thanks to God for everything that he has done in my life. I give thanks to my wife whom I call my jewel and my beautiful six children.
“I thank her, especially for giving me my children because they are the driving force to my everyday hustle.”
