The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation on Tuesday says it will hold an Extraordinary Annual General Meeting in January 2018 to adopt a new constitution for the sport to forge ahead in the New Year.
Kelechukwu Mbagwu, the President of the NRFF, said this in a communiqué he issued on Tuesday.
The communique said that the NRFF had embarked on an ambitious plan to build the momentum of progress for the sport following the suspension of the ban formerly imposed on it by Rugby Afrique.
The statement said: “Our activities at the early stage have been impressive owing to the programmes held when this board was sworn-in.
“Secondly, to live up to our promise to Rugby Afrique, the first draft of our constitution will be released this week.
“Having a validly adopted constitution is a must for NRFF as one of the criteria to be a member of the African body.
“This is indeed a major step.”
It added that the committee had cleared the three leagues initially sanctioned by the board and could now operate.
It said the leagues were the Northern League, Lagos League and the South-South/South East League.
On sponsorship drive, the communiqué revealed that the body was working round the clock to secure viable sponsors for the sport.
It further stated: “Our finance and sponsorship committee has been on the move especially after Rugby Afrique and the Nigeria Olympics Committee had endorsed it.
“The endorsement from both bodies has legitimized our pursuit of new sponsors.
“We have had several meetings with some corporate organisations that have shown interests to feature in our programmes in the future.”
