Nigeria Police mourns former IGP

The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, on behalf of the entire officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force has announced the news of the death of a former IGP, Sunday Adebayo Adewusi, who passed away at the National Hospital, Abuja on Tuesday.
Arase expressed deepest condolences and sympathy to the families and loved ones of Adewusi.
Arase described Adewusi as a Nigerian hero who served his nation proudly as a Police officer and even at retirement.
He said he was a transformational leader whose tenure as Inspector-General of Police between1981 and 1983 remains impactful across several generations of Police officers.
He noted that throughout his life, Adewusi remained a strong member of the Police family, attending all Police official events, even up to the last Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary celebration.
Adewusi, according to Arase, was a beacon of hope to the Nigeria Police Force, just as he remained an advocate of policing throughout his life.
While the entire members of the Nigeria Police family mourn the loss of a great police icon, the IGP noted that the same family also celebrates his remarkable life and hoped that it serves as an example to all and sundry across the nation to selflessly serve a cause greater than themselves.
The IGP therefore urged the families, friends and indeed all Nigerians to take solace in the knowledge that Adewusi has gone to be with his Maker and he is surely resting in the bosom of the Almighty God.
Meanwhile, the IGP has set up a Committee to liaise with the family to give him a befitting burial that he deserves.
