The Niger State Government on Thursday said as part of efforts to ensure cleanliness and healthy environment, it will kick start the monthly sanitation exercise on the last Saturday of this month (February).
While briefing newsmen at Government House after its Executive Council meeting in Minna, the government explained that vehicular and human movements will be restricted between 7am and 10am.
The exercise, according to the Commissioner for the Environment, Mohammed T. Zakari, will take place every last Saturday of the month to ensure cleanliness and to help curb outbreak of any disease.
According to Zakari: “We are reintroducing the monthly environmental sanitation exercise and it will be flagged off on Saturday, 29th February, 2020 by the Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello.”
Zakari noted that Mobile Courts have been constituted for better enforcement, adding that the Ministry is partnering with security outfits and other relevant agencies in ensuring strict compliance as well as an effective exercise.
Speaking on plans to manage waste, the Commissioner said: “We are in partnership with a Ghanaian company for recycling of wastes; it would generate between 10,000 to 20,000 jobs for youths and the entire process will be completed in the next two weeks.”
Furthermore, he stated that the Government has resolved to procure 1,000 trucks and 10,000 tricycles for the evacuation of refuse.
